3 Best Modeling and Talent Agencies in Pittsburgh, PA
Acting and Modeling Agencies in Pittsburgh, PA
Pittsburgh Pennsylvania has a really great growing and thriving film, tv and commercial scene for actors and models. If this is something you are looking to get into, here are 3 great talent agencies in our area that can help you.
The Talent Group - The Talent Group is headed by Richard Koehn and Stephen Black. They do an amazing job for actors and models in the Pittsburgh, PA and Cleveland, OH area. http://www.talentgroup.com
Docherty Agency - Docherty is another really strong agency in the Pittsburgh and Cleveland area. They are headed by Jared Pascoe. Docherty help models and actors book work in the Pittsburgh and Cleveland area. - dochertyagency.com
Lucky Fox Agency - Lucky Fox differs slightly than the Talent Group and Docherty, Lucky Fox is really focused on developing talent and helping them get signed to other markets. Lucky Fox Agency would be considered more of a manager and a modeling agency, but Caitlin, the owner, does a phenomenal job of developing talent. https://www.luckyfoxagency.com/models
P.S. - If any agency asks you for money up front, you should steer clear. A legitimate talent agency makes money when you, the talent makes money. Also, this being said, if an agency encourages you to get new photos, materials, this is normal. But anything along the lines of paying for classes, paying for them to teach you how to be a model or actor. This is typical a scam.

What do I do with my hands during a photoshoot? (headshots in Pittsburgh)
What do I do with my Hands?
Headshot Photography in Pittsburgh, PA
Interact with your wardrobe and hair. Period.
Essentially 80% of magazine covers you have ever seen, the person is interacting with their wardrobe. You've seen the handsome movie star fixing his tie, the starlet playing with her dress absent mindedly. It's not accident that this is done, it's an easy, comfortable way to fit more into the setting and look more natural.
So next time you are in front of my lens or even just a selfie, try playing with your jacket, putting your hand in your pocket or even tying your shoe. It looks great.
Thanks for Reading,
Max

Beautiful Portrait of Evie taken at Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens in Pittsburgh, PA
Pittsburgh has some fantastic spots for portrait photography. Here are three good ones:
Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens: While it can be a pain in the butt, to actually do portrait photography inside Phipps, the surround area is utterly gorgeous. Right outside of Phipps are cobblestones paths, arched bridges, beautiful greenery and rustic stone structures.
The Strip District: This area works really well for professionals and business owner who want a cool city vibe in their photos. If you go to my about page, I took that photo in the strip district. It has a very casual yet cool vibe to it.
In Our Studio: I love using our studio in Braddock as well as OPYA in Southside. It has nice rich tones and beautiful light, and guess what, we don’t have to worry if it rains!
Why do headshots matter to perspective employers?
Do headshots actually matter to perspective employers.
Yes yes a thousand times yes.
Headshots can matter to prospective employers for several reasons:
First Impressions: A professional headshot provides the employer with a visual representation of you before they meet you in person. It's often the first impression they have of you, and a well-presented headshot can convey professionalism and confidence.
Professionalism: A high-quality headshot suggests that you take your professional image seriously. It reflects positively on your commitment to presenting yourself in a polished and business-like manner.
Company Culture Fit: In some industries, employers may consider how well your appearance aligns with the company culture. A headshot can give them insights into your style and demeanor, helping them assess if you'd be a good fit for their organization.
Online Presence: Many employers and recruiters use online platforms like LinkedIn to find and connect with potential candidates. A professional headshot can make your online profile more appealing and increase the likelihood of being noticed.
Recognition: In a competitive job market, having a distinctive and memorable headshot can help you stand out. It can contribute to better recognition and recall when employers review numerous resumes and profiles.
Personal Branding: A headshot is a component of your personal brand. It contributes to how you want to be perceived professionally, and employers may use it to gauge your personal brand alignment with their company values.
It's important to note that the significance of headshots can vary across industries and regions. In some professions, like acting or modeling, a headshot is a standard part of the application process. In others, it may be less critical. Always be mindful of industry norms and preferences.

Importance of a Professional Headshot
In the early stages of your career, the adage "put your best face forward" holds significant weight. Whether you're pursuing a job or already entrenched in a profession, initial judgments about you occur rapidly in what psychologists term "think slicing." Within mere seconds of encountering your picture or meeting you, people form opinions on aspects ranging from your intelligence and socio-economic status to even your sexual preferences. The brevity of this first impression opportunity underscores the importance of making it count. Princeton psychologists Janine Willis and Alexander Todorov's experiments emphasize that it takes just a tenth of a second to shape an impression of a stranger's face, and prolonged exposure doesn't drastically alter these impressions. Professional photographers, like myself, can wield considerable influence in altering the message conveyed by your headshots, portraying you as approachable or serious, among other tones. A compelling example is Canon Australia's video "The Lab: Decoy," where different photographers, armed with diverse background stories, produce distinct portraits of the same individual. Your headshot serves as the logo of your personal brand, crucial for career aspirations or business endeavors. Executives understand the importance of a meticulously crafted image in the public eye, and a professional headshot is your key to unlocking opportunities. Unlike amateur attempts, a professional photographer possesses the expertise in composition, lighting, posing, and post-production editing to enhance your visual representation. Your professional image, reflected in your headshot, is crucial regardless of the industry you're in. Acting, real estate, financial services, entrepreneurship, or trades – each demands a professional representation that signifies a commitment to your business. In an era dominated by social media, your online presence matters, and a professional photo on platforms like LinkedIn significantly increases your discoverability. The power of social media cannot be understated, with billions of users worldwide. The types of headshots, from acting to corporate and artistic-beauty, cater to various needs, emphasizing personality, professionalism, or unique physical features. During your headshot session, allowing your personality to shine is paramount, accompanied by grooming tips and industry-appropriate attire. A brief consultation with the photographer helps tailor the session to your target audience. In conclusion, making a memorable first impression and showcasing your face professionally through a headshot is a strategic move that not only enhances your professional image but also paves the way for achieving your goals. As Mario Andretti aptly puts it, "Desire is the key to motivation, but it's determination and commitment to an unrelenting pursuit of your goal – a commitment to excellence – that will enable you to attain the success you seek."
